The leadership crisis rocking the local branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Yelwa, Shendam local government area of Plateau State deepened yesterday with a faction of the union calling on the state executive to dissolve the recently inaugurated exco.

In the call which was contained in a petition to the state council of the union and signed by Alhaji Ibrahim Kano, Yusuf Suleiman, Ya’u Ma’aji and other members of the faction, the faction stressed that contrary to claims by the state union secretary that Kano did not purchase the form to vie for the chairmanship seat, no election forms had been sold to members to contest for the offices.

The petition stated, “It should be noted also that while the said inauguration took place, the forms purportedly purchased by the exco were not filled and submitted to the committee and up to the time we returned to Yelwa, the forms were not filled nor returned. It smacks of a hidden agenda that people were sworn in and inaugurated without their official forms being filled and submitted. We gathered these facts from the branch secretary.”

The petition called for a dissolution of the exco to be replaced by a caretaker committee to run the affairs of the branch pending when all issues are resolved, adding, “failure to do so will leave us with no option but to find a way we can defend the interest of our teaming members.”
