Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has issued a warning to residents of Jos and other states including Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna states to prepare for additional incidents of flooding in the coming weeks as heavy rain continue into the month of September.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Director General of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, Dr Anthony Anuforom said the geo-technical condition of the soil in Jos, Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna are currently such that the ground has already been saturated by the heavy rainfall experienced in the last few weeks areas and that since more downpours are forecasted to continue in the coming weeks, this may lead to more flooding.
The Director General also confirmed in his brief that the agency had so been 75% accurate (out of 28) in their forecasts of meteorological conditions for these areas.
