The European Union (EU) yesterday in Jos announced the donation of N1.5 billion to support the peace building process in Plateau state. The EU’s acting head of operations in Nigeria, Mr. Alan Munday disclosed this at the official launching of EU funded projects on peace building and conflict resolution in the state.

He said, the projects would be implemented through its Instrument for Stability (ISF) in collaboration with three partners including “Apurimac Onlu”, “GIZ” and “Search for Common Ground”. And that the essence of the project was to strengthen the mechanisms of conflicts prevention, including the reduction of youth unemployment, promotion of confidence building and the fostering of genuine reconciliation between warring communities.

While delivering her remarks at the event, the Plateau State Commissioner of Women Affairs Mrs. Olivia Dazem said she was very impressed that inspite of the negative media coverage about Plateau state by national and international media agencies, the EU was still moved to sponsor projects in the state. She said “most of the media reports on happenings are related to the crisis on the Plateau were inaccurate and therefore appealed to journalists and news agencies to continually maintain equity and fairness in their reporting.
