University of Jos gets 17 new professors and 22 readers

News available to us indicates that the Governing Council of the University of Jos has approved the promotion of 17 readers to the rank of professors and equally 22 Senior Lecturers to the post of readers.

In a statement signed by Abdullahi Abduallahi, Principal, Assistant Registrar, Information and Public Relations of the University of Jos, and made available on Tuesday, the statement read that some of the promotions took effect from Oct. 1, 2013 while others took effect from Oct. 1, 2014. Note: all back dated.

The new professors are: Ahmedu Ibrahim Musa, (Religious studies and Philosophy); Gideon Umezurike Egezie, (Human Physiology); and Grace Mebi Ayanbimpe, (Medical Microbiology).

Others are: Noel Nenman Wanang (Pharmacology); Nyager Elizabeth, (Theatre and Film Arts); and Agaku Jacob, (Theatre and Film Arts) who was promoted post-humously.

Others who were equally promoted to the post of professor include: Ikonji Ogaji, (Pharmaceutical Technology); David Pam Yakubu, (Zoology); Bakwa Dirting Dakup (Physics); and Barnabas John Kwaha (Physics), Mary Plangnan Haggai, (Educational Foundations), Agbo Felicia Onyemowo (Science and Technology Education); Stephen Samuel Gyang (Clinical Pharmacy); and Haruna Bonaventure Nkup (Political Science), Professors Christiana Ogoamaka Okoye, (Political Science); Alemika Emily, (Faculty of Law) and Adefioye O. Akerele (Economics Department);

All promotions were backdated to Oct. 1, 2011.

Additionally, 22 academic staff in various departments were promoted to the position of Readers by the council.
