Two Plateau Rep. Members Make “Top 10 House of Rep. Members by Bills Sponsorship”

As the 9th National Assembly Marks one Year in Office, some have demonstrated sufficient legislative capacity in carrying out their Constitutional Responsibilities.

Ideally, the core constitutional functions of Legislators include; Law-making, Oversight Functions and representation.

The legislature is an institution which represents the common and collective interests of the citizens through the enactment of laws and the exercise of oversight functions on the activities of the executive arm of government.

The legislature in a democracy exists as an independent institution which deepens democracy and ultimately strengthens the polity.

In the last 365 days in office (from 10th June, 2019 – 10th June, 2020) some Members of the 9th House of Representatives have made remarkable progress and added great value to the National Assembly by sponsoring Bills which if passed into Laws by the Executive Arm of Government will have significant impact on the Nation and Citizens.

The Assembly has broad oversight functions and is empowered to establish committees of its members to scrutinise bills and the conduct of government officials.
This oversight functions of the legislature if properly carried out is an instrument for nation building.

Within one year, while some Lawmakers are without a single Bill, others have already done creditably well in terms of their cardinal constitutional function of law-making since the inauguration of the 9th Assembly.

The legislative vibrancy and prowess of the Lawmakers is reflected in the fact that some Members tied on certain slots, for instance two Members occupy 3rd Position while three occupy the 9th position.
