Two children were on Friday morning abducted by a group of armed kidnappers from their home in Jos around Rayfield, the plateau capital.
An Investigative journalist Ahmad Salkida said in a series of tweets that the children abducted are between the ages of 5 and 11.
He said, “Two children between the ages of 5 and 11 were abducted today in their homes in Jos, Plateau State. One of the kid was kidnapped around 2am this morning and the other, moments ago, at 7pm. Both children are still in captivity and the families are traumatized.
“Residents of Jos are battling with kid kidnappings right under the noses of the Army, Air Force, Secret Service, Police and Paramilitary Arms in the metropolis. The latest incident happened close to the new Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
“The children are seized if the gunmen don’t find “enough cash” in the house. The parents are then forced to choose between instant death or abduction of one of their children to give the parents more time to raise money for ransom payments.
“Almost all the kid kidnappings in Jos ended up with ransom payments. Residents said the police have not been able to help, and “we are not yet aware of a family that has succeeded in rescuing their kids without ransom,” said a church leader in the state.”
