Troops of Operation Safe Haven Engage Bandits in Wase, Recover Weapon and Rescues Abducted Minor in Riyom

Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), a multi-security task force maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States, have recorded significant breakthroughs in recent anti-banditry operations across Plateau State.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops laid a successful ambush in the early hours of 24 July 2025, along the Kampani–Kombodoro road in Wase Local Government Area, following sightings of armed bandits mounted on motorcycles and wielding AK-47 rifles near Jeb Community.

Upon contact, troops engaged the bandits with a heavy volume of fire, forcing the criminals to flee in disarray. In the aftermath of the engagement, a search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and five rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition abandoned by the fleeing bandits. The recovered arms and ammunition are currently in the custody of security personnel for further investigation and action. Troops remain on the trail of the fleeing suspects.

In a separate operation conducted on 22 July 2025, troops raided criminal hideouts in Riyom general area, leading to the rescue of a 12-year-old boy who had been missing for three years. Investigations revealed that the boy was sold by his uncle, who is now on the run. The rescued minor has been safely handed over to the Councillor representing Zamko Ward in Langtang North LGA, who is facilitating the process of reuniting him with his immediate family.

The leadership of 3 Division Nigerian Army/Operation SAFE HAVEN has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region. The Force remains resolute, proactive, and aggressive in tracking and neutralizing criminal elements threatening the safety and well-being of law-abiding citizens.
