Tricycles protest: Plateau suspends training policy

Plateau State government  on Monday said it suspended the training policy aimed at sensitising tricycles operators popularly refered to as Keke Napep on the need to be professional on their discharge of services in the state

Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Works and Transport, Gabriel Mafulul said, “The training policy has been suspended for further consultation. We do not have any ulterior motives, we want to use this exercise to get a comprehensive date of the Operators.”

“The statement government is determined to better the lives of citizens of the state ,since the intention was interpreted, we have suspended it for now.

It could be recalled that Operators of tricycles popularly known as Keke NAPEP in Jos, the Plateau State Capital  went on protest on Monday over  what they termed as exorbitant tax being charged on them which they said is unreasonably high .

One of the operators of the Keke Napep who gave his name as David Sale  attributed the protest to undue harassment by Men of the state Vehicle Inspection Officers VIO and Road Safety Corps, alleging that that they were asked to get a drivers License for a ridiculous amount of N15,000 to N20,000. As a result of the protest, all activities of commercial tricycle operations in the city was grounded leaving most commuters within the city stranded

Sale who spoke to our Correspondent said they are protesting  exorbitant tax being charged on them which they said is unreasonably high considering the harsh economic realities in the nation and constant harassment on them by men of the Vehicle Inspection Office of Plateau State Ministry of Works and Transport.

Our Correspondent reports that This protest grounded their operations within Jos and left many who patronizes that means of transportation stranded.
