Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has assured the State’s Muslim Pilgrims currently in Mecca that urgent steps have been taken to address their plights while in the Holy Land.
Barr. Mutfwang in a press statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Gyang Bere said action has been taken to unravel the logistics problems concerning medical personnel who were screened to travel with the pilgrims to Mecca.
He explained that the plight and welfare of citizens, particularly pilgrims who are on Holy pilgrimage to Mecca is of great importance to the government.
“We will find out exactly what is going on with our pilgrims in Mecca and why the medical personnel and preachers who were supposed to guide and take care of their health are left home.
“We will not tolerate any act that will compromise the health and welfare of our people. When citizens are in pains, I am also in pains. Therefore everything would be done to address the situation at hand.” He stated.
The Director of Operations, Plateau State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alh. Isa Hashimu who briefed government on the matter from Mecca, said alternative arrangements have been made for the safety of the pilgrims while in Mecca.
He said despite the inability of the medical personnel and preachers from Plateau to travel with pilgrims to Mecca, Plateau indigenes in the Holy city have taken care of the situation.
The Director described as untrue the stories making round that Plateau pilgrims are stranded in Mecca.
He said Plateau pilgrims are paired in hostels with their counterparts from others states where their health and spiritual life is adequately being taken care of.
