THE MEDIA IS PIVOTAL IN PROVIDING LASTING PEACE – REP. SIMON MWADKWON

The Honorable member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency in the green Chambers of the national assembly, Hon. Dr. Simon Mwadkwon has again reiterated that the importance of the media cannot be overemphasized, considering the critical role it plays in providing lasting peace in the society which is being ravaged by insecurity on daily basis.

The Rep member said this during an Inaugural Lecture organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigerian Union Of Journalists (NUJ) with a topic, “INSECURITY AND THE QUEST FOR LASTING PEACE IN NIGERIA: THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA”

He commended the chapel for the selection of the topic which he said was apt and timely. Hon. Simon said he is a friend of Journalists and will continue to advocate for good welfare package and autonomy of the journalism Profession to enable them practice with very minimal or no interference. He said once a Journalist is truly God-fearing, he will be truthful in whatever he reports or writes, no matter the temptation to do otherwise. He charged Journalists on the Plateau to always feed the public with the right, true and verified information as this will entrench lasting peace.

High point of the event, was the swearing in of the new Executives of the correspondents’ Chapel and a fundraising for the purchase of a Bus for the chapel. He also contributed financially for the purchase of a bus for the Chapel. The Federal Lawmaker was ably represented by Comr. James Nyango, an Advocate for good governance and quality representation. The occasion took place yesterday, 5th Nov, 2020 at the conference Hall of Jos Business School, Rayfield, Plateau State, Nigeria and was well attended.

Some dignitaries at the occasion include; Hon Commissioner for information, Plateau state, hon. Dan Manjang, Representative of the Gbong Gwom Jos, HRH Da Paul Padi Tok, the Guest Lecturer, Hon. Rep Yusuf A. Gagdi represented by Comr. Luka Pampe, Representative of Lt. Gen. J T Usseni, Hon. Abraham Yiljap, Rev. Dr Yakubu Pam, ES, NCPC represented by Hon. Ayuba Pam Dangwong, Representative of ITF DG, Langtang North LGA Chairman, Hon. Obandom Obandoma who was represented by Sen. Dogo Nanzing etc.
