The History of Democracy Cannot be Written Without Plateau State – Gov. Mutfwang

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has disclosed that the history of Nigeria’s democracy cannot be written with Plateau State considering the contributions of the State to democracy.
He said the Preaidential Primaries that produced late Moshood Abiola who later emerged democratically President in the election that was later annuled in 1993 and the Primary Election that produced former President Olusegun Obasanjo were all conducted in Plateau State. He also said one of Founding Fathers of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Late Chief Solomon Lar was from the State.
He disclosed that the State will continue to contribute immensely to Nation building and democracy.
He said the administration has a lot of work to be done owing to the challenges it inherited from its predecessor.

He made these known during the live democracy day programme with the theme “Unpacking the Time is Now Vision” which held at Plateau Radio Television Corporation Rayfield, Jos.

He said Civil Servants have not been paid from February to May, 2023 and he has not asked Civil Servants to get back to work owing to their conditions and making effort to secure resources to offset the outstanding salaries left by his predecessor.

He spoke on the desire of his administration to reinvigorate the security architecture of Plateau State to tackle the security challenges confronting the State. He said he engaged the President on the security challenges.
He asserted that securing the State is a collective duty urging the people to be united to confront the insecurity bedeviling the State.
He said his administration will work towards combating poverty using the opportunities available in the State.
“This Administration will be unpacking its agenda for the eradication of poverty through agricultural and providing the enabling environment for the private sectors and youths to go into agriculture to enhance the economy of the State.
“The Administration will revive the Agricultural Services Training Centre (ASTC) and ensure that the mandate of the agency is met”.

On environmental sanitation, he assured the citizens that the administration will ensure that cleanliness is mainstream into the daily lives of the Citizens.

He also disclosed that Jos administration didn’t distort the democratic structures at the third-tier of government but only approved the request of the State Assembly to ensure sanity at that level of government.
The Governor said the administration suspended the recruitment that were done few weeks to the end of the immediate past Administration and backdated to carry out investigate same to ensure they complied with the existing civil service rules.
“We’ll continue to carry out policies and programmes that will be in the best interest of the people.
“We have a huge burden for the people and all those appointed should exhibit such spirit so we can meet the yearnings and aspiration of the people.
“Our administration will give attention to all sectors and reinvigorate the Civil Service to deliver on our agenda to the people of Plateau State” he said.
He dispelled the rumours making the rounds in the social media space that his administration dissolved the newly created chiefdoms and districts saying it is the handiwork of mischief makers.

He also spoke on the plan for the Rebranded Plateau Project.

In their separate remarks, the People’s Democratic Party Chairman Plateau State, Hon. Chris Hassan and the outgoing Speaker called on the Citizens to support the present administration in its effort to provide purposeful leadership to the people.
