THE FEAR OF THE RISING RATE OF COVID-19 IN MANGU LGA; A WARNING SIGNAL TO PLATEAU GOVERNMENT. By Koplu Naanjwan Kevin

With the ease of the Covid-19 lockdown across Plateau State and Nigeria at large, businesses are picking up gradually and life is returning to normalcy across the State. However, it seems people have forgotten so early that Covid-19 is still much around and is not going anytime soon, atleast not now until scientists find a reliable vaccine or cure for the dreaded virus.

For the past few weeks I have watched activities returned to normalcy without any caution that Covid-19 is still claiming lives; people no longer follow the safety measures; the use of face mask is a story of the past, washing of hands at public places like markets, restaurants and eatries is regarded as a waste of time with the exception of worship centers and banks, parties are still being organized every weekend and to my surprise; some in Rayfield in Jos, a community where the Plateau State Government house is resided. No wonder for the past few weeks now Plateau state is among the first 3 states with the highest number ofnew cases and at times the highest in a day.

Using Mangu Local Government as a case study where I conducted my research to alert the Government about the rise in cases of Covid-19, I found out that; Mangu might be the next epic center of the virus in Plateau State if something is not done as a matter of urgency.

Many people don’t know that the Mangu General Hospital is presently under lock and key for some days now as the management of the Hospital has shut down the Hospital because of Corona Virus and its Doctors and Nurses are currently on self isolation and also for fumigation to be done. Even when it is rummored or confirmed that someone is suspected to have died of covid-19, people don’t still take precaution when going for condolence visit.

Many when asked, fear for their lives and are of the opinion that; if another lockdown will be the way out, the Government should please do so for their lives is better of than anything.

Even when there is more to what I am saying let me pause here and call on the Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Governmet, Hon. Lawrence Danat, Hon (Dr) Bala N. Fwangje, and Hon. Abdul Adamu Yanga, the Hon. members representing Mangu south and Mangu North respectively in the Plateau State House of Assembly, the memeber represemting Mangu/Bokkos in the Federal House of Representative, Hon. Solomon Maren, and the Senator representing Plateau central in the National Assembly Hon. Hezekiah Dimka to do the needful and salvage the situation. I am also calling on H.E. Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, the Executive Governor of Plateau State to put strict measures in place to make sure that citizens abide by the covid-19 protocols.

They say a stitch in time saves nine so let us be wise and join hands together to fight this pandemic or we all be consume.
