Temporary Suspension of commercial tricycles by Government timely says Plateau Regeneration Group

Plateau Regeneration Group PRG on Tuesday condemned  the activities of Tricycle riders on Monday for  allegedly burning down a patrol vehicle and injuring  six personnel of the Plateau command of the Federal Road Safety Commission ( FRSC ) in Jos.

 The group in a statement signed by Pam Dandirin and made available to newsmen in Jos however commended the state government for acting timely by suspending the activities of commercial tricycles riders  in Jos and Bukuru metropolis following  this unfortunate event   

“We have observed with dismay the way Keke Napep operators have taken  law into their hands in Jos Metropolis and we say well done to the state government for temporarily  suspending their activities in Jos :

It could be recalled that The tricycle riders had occupied major streets of Jos on Monday protesting alleged extortion by officers and men of the commission and state Vehicle Inspection Office.

Mr Andrew Bala, the command’s Public Education Officer, confirmed the incident to our reporter in Jos.

According to Bala, the protesters visited the Bauchi ring road unit command where they beat up officers on duty and vandalised the building.

“They burnt one of our patrol vehicles, vandalised another and destroyed a lot of valuables at our office premises on Bauchi ring road.

“They also vandalised eight other vehicles in the office premises and some at a mechanic workshop close to the office.

“In our bid to resist the act, six of our personnel were badly injured,” Bala said.

 The group commended the Plateau State government for temporarily suspending the activities of tricycles popularly refered to as Keke   Napep in Jos and Bukuru metropolis following their protest stressing that that was the best way to avert a crisis in Jos 

“We call on the great peace loving youths and the good people of Plateau State, to continue to make our society a better place to be.”

The swift response of the Plateau State  Government is highly commended. This is an expression of leadership, character and responsibility. We are in support of the suspension of tricycles   for now  in Jos and Bukuru metropolis to curb further tensions.,the statement further added.
