17 years old student of Government Secondary School Jebbu, Bassa of Plateau State was on Monday evening attacked and killed by suspected fulani herdsmen while returning from a Tin mining site near Gero village in Jos South LGA of the State.
The Student name Lumumbah chayi who was preparing for his Junior Secondary School Examination had gone for mining while returning with one other person in the evening were attacked and inflicted with varying degrees of injuries, before the could be rushed to the hospital he died on the way.
While narrating the attacked to Journalist in Miango, Ntoro Duh who narrowly escape being killed while in an interview in Enos Hospital Miango said, “we were on our way with the decease around 3:30pm on Monday when some Fulani herdsmen attacks us on our way, they machete my head, but I was able to escape while the followed the deceased to ensure the killed him”.
Village Head of Kpachudu, in Bassa LGC of the State Ngwe Gado Dahma while speaking at the Burial of the killed student appealed to the Federal Government and state to take proactive steps toward protecting lives and property of his community.
“We want to appealed to President Buhari and Governor Lalong to please help us take proactive steps to ensure the protection of lives and property of the citizens of Irigwe chiefdom, since the beginning of this year we here in Kpachudu have lost over 30 people”. He said.
National President of the Irigwe Youth Movement Chinye Dodo Ayuba called on President Muhammadu Buhari to take drastic action toward safeguarding the lives of the Irigwe People, saying on either daily or weekly bases farmlands are been destroyed.
“We are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to know that the security arrangement in Place is not working, most of the attacks takes place not far from checkpoints and we all know that the first responsibility of Government is the protection of lives and property”.
“We also view the incessant attacks on our people as a calculated attempt to eliminate us completely in Bassa, but we have encourage our people to defend themselves at the event that we are pushed to the wall, we are already working on community policing and vigilante groups to protect our communities”.
Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Tyopev Terna who confirmed the attacks disclosed that two incidences occurred Monday evening in Bassa and Bokkos.
“The Police Division in Bassa received a report yesterday evening on the said attack on the Fulani herder, and shortly got wind of the attack on the miners the Police Division is expected to visit the scenes of the two incidences today” he said.
The renewed attacks are coming few days to a planned visit by President Mohammad Buhari who is expected to launch a document published by the State government as a roadmap to Peace in the state.
