Executive Chairman of Shendam Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Nicholas Kemi Nshe has pledged to boost the internally Generated Revenue of the council.
The council boss made this known when he led a high-powered delegation to inspect a strategic property owned by the Council in Karu, Abuja.
A statement signed by Fredrick Kattiems, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the council boss reads that the delegation comprised members of the Executive Council, Legislative Council, advisers, and key stakeholders of Shendam local government council.
He said the visit marked a significant step forwards the council’s boss visionary plan to establish the Shendam Continental Hotel a landmark hospitality project poised to drive economic growth, generate employment, and create lasting opportunities, especially for the younger generation.
The proposed Shendam Continental Hotel is designed to feature approximately 64 rooms, including a presidential lodge, making it a major hospitality and investment hub.
The project is expected to be completed and commissioned within six months
The statement reads that “The property, which sits on 3,000 square meters, is currently home to an aging 13-room structure formerly occupied by some indigenes of Shendam.
The Chairman confirmed that the occupants were respectfully relocated with proper compensation, allowing construction to begin in earnest.
During the inspection, both the Local Government Lands Officer and the contractor handling the project described the current state of the property as an “eyesore.” They revealed that prior to the Chairman’s intervention, some criminal elements had conspired to illegally sell the land, but their attempt was thwarted thanks to swift and decisive action by the Chairman.
The Chairman emphasized the need for local governments to reduce overdependence on federal allocations by creating sustainable avenues for revenue generation.
He described the hotel project as a strategic economic investment that will serve Shendam for generations to come.
Also speaking at the occasion, Hon. Danladi Bawa, Leader of the Legislative Council, lauded the initiative.
He assured the Chairman of the legislature’s full backing, announcing that the Council was unanimously passing a vote of confidence on his leadership.
