Jos — The National Chairman, Council of Ulama of Jammatul Izalatul Bidia Waikamatu Sunnah (JIBWIS) Shiekh Sani Yahaya Jingir, has urged Nigerians to use the Ramadan period to unite and fight terrorism through spiritual rejuvenation.

The Islamic scholar who spoke at a Ramadan Tafsir in Jos two days ago said:”Nigeria is sick because terrorists and their cohorts have stalled the peaceful atmosphere for economic and political development, they have stalled education, farming and other religious and social activities of our fellow Nigerians”.

“Terrorism threatens our cohesion and corporate existence as a country. At this trying period we must keep aside our differences, unite and face the threat confronting us. We must demonstrate courage, trust and unity of purpose as well as resist the intimidation and all forms of fear posed by the ungodly, evil-minded terrorists”.

He described the month of Ramadan as a period of moral and spiritual rejuvenation and urged all Nigerians irrespective of their religious backgrounds to reposition their minds, fear God in their daily activities, adding that the fear of God is the foundation of righteousness.

Jingir also warned politicians to stop politicising the security challenges facing the nation and focus on finding solutions to the problem. He said leadership is a trust and leaders at all levels must be just and fair, shun greed, selfishness and all forms of corruption, while their followers must be loyal to constituted authorities to get out of the present predicament”.

He advised the National Assembly and the Defence Headquarters to collaborate in finding solution to the increase in cases of fake military and police uniforms, adding that the rate is alarming.

“Government must come up with unique features to differentiate the uniforms from those being used by criminals. Terrorists and other criminals now use military uniforms and facilities, there is need for the federal government to take a decisive action to halt this problem so that law abiding citizens can easily identify the genuine military”, he added.
