SENATOR GYANG HOST AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA.

Senator I. D. Gyang, Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Defence played host to His Excellency, Yanko V. Yordanov Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria in Abuja on Monday 10th May, 2021. The Senator had earlier the previous week, hosted a Bulgarian business delegation at his Rayfield residence, Jos.

Ambassador Yordanov briefed the Senator on the desire of his country to strengthen existing ties with Nigeria. He revealed the areas in which Bulgaria seeks mutual bilateral cooperation with Nigeria among which are;

  1. Commerce and Industry where Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Trade Mission seeks engagement with her Nigerian counterpart at the national and sub national levels to explore and expand opportunities for business partnership and investment.
  2. Education Exchange and Special Grants for renovation and upgrading of Basic Education infrastructure.
  3. Institutional collaboration for the Bulgarian Diplomatic Academy in training and exposure for Diplomats.
  4. News and Information exchange at National and sub national News Agency levels.
  5. Strategic engagement in Defence related capabilities that can assist Nigeria combat terrorism.
  6. The Agric and Mining sectors are also of interest for Bulgaria investors and availability of applicable technology to transform agricultural practices and productivity.

Special Assistant, Media & Protocol to Senator I. D. Gyang, Esq, Said Senator Gyang welcomes Ambassdor Yordanov and appreciated the cordial bilateral ties between Nigeria and Bulgaria. He underscored the need for cooperation and collaboration among nation states to address global challenges as no nation can exist in isolation.

The Senator while appreciating the areas of possible cooperation highlighted, assured the Ambassador of facilitating appropriate engagements at both the national and sub national levels in that regard.

The Senator stressed the need for the two nations to take advantage of existing ties for the good of their citizens and welcome the offer of Bulgaria to avail Nigeria its Defence capabilities in the fight against terrorism.

Senator Gyang and Ambassador Yardanov saw the need to renew Nigeria/Bulgaria Inter parliamentary Friendship Platform given its obvious implications on strenghtening existing ties of the two countries within the framework of Bulgaria’s Cooperation for Development Policy.

On hand to receive and welcome the Ambassador was Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, Member representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
