Senator representing Plateau South in the National Assembly Prof Nora Ladi Daduut , has expressed heartfelt commiserations to members of the Plateau state union of Journalists ( NUJ )over the recent attack on 15 of its members and burning of the union bus .
It could be recalled that Senator Dadu’ut and 15 Journalists as well as some of her aides last Thursday escaped death by whiskers ,when their convoy ran into an angry mob in Namu community in Quaan pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred shortly after the Senator had commissioned an ICT Centre/E-Library in the community, leaving the vehicle of the NUJ Plateau State Council burnt and the pilot vehicle belonging to the Senator.
Senator Daduut who visited the NUJ described the incident as a sad .
Represented by her Legislative aide Hon Rufina Gurumyen, the Senator said ” I wish to express my deep regret to the entire Nigerian Union of Journalists, Plateau State Chapter over the unfortunate incident that occurred in Namu on the 28th of April, 2022 which led to the loss of your Bus.
She added that ” While we thank God for sparing us all from physical harm, I pray that He heals us all from the emotional trauma we experienced.”
Furthermore, I pray that the perpetrators will have a change of heart and desist from such barbaric behaviour which disturbs the peace we all desire.
I thank the NUJ for acting professionally even in the face of being victims of the unfortunate incident.
Senator Daduut further pledged to partner with the NUJ at all times .
Responding ,the Chairman of NUJ in Plateau comrade Paul Jatau condemned in strong terms the attack on of its members who were in the entourage of Senator Daduut in Namu by suspected hoodlums and called on security agencies to ensure that the pepatrators of the act are arrested .
He lamented that the only bus the union had was razed down in the attack by the hoodlums .
In his words “The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council condemns the unwarranted and unprovoked attack on its members who were there to serve the society”. We wonder why journalists are being targeted while carrying out their legitimate duties”. “
