Senate Committee On Defence Gives Kudos to DHQ During Oversight Visit

The Senate Committee on Defence has applauded the Defence Headquarters for effectively sustaining troops in various operations spread across the country, and also peace support operations.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Aliyu Wamakko gave this applause while making his remark during the Oversight visit of the Senate Committee on Defence to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja today 11 December 2019.
Senator Wamakko said the objective of the Committee’s visit is to access the economic performance of the DHQ in the usage of economics resources deployed to them in the 2019 Budget for specific goals of projects implementation, performance and outcomes of specific, measurable, achievable, realistic time bounce objectives among others.
“There is no double that security sector governance aims at elaborating rules that set standards for state and human security by applying the principles of good governance to the security sector, thereby making security provision oversight and management more effective and more accountable, within the framework of democratic civilian control.” He stated.
“There is no doubt that the DHQ plays a germaine role in the coordination of the Armed Forces which has effectively sustain troops in the various operations spread across the country and the sub-region towards guaranteeing a secured Nigeria nation and successful peace support operations.” The Committee Chairman added.
Senator Wamakko further stated that the Committee commends the sacrifices of Officers and men of the Armed Forces in undertaking a great task of protecting the Nation. “We salute your courage.” He said.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin while welcoming the Committee said their visit provides the opportunity to enlighten the committee the operational activities of the DHQ as we as the 2019 appropriation for the DHQ.
“Mr Chairman, Distinguished Senators, Kindly recall that in our previous interaction on the implementation of the 2019 budget, and our defense of our 2020 budget proposal, you were informed that only 72.6% of the approved DHQ capital budget allocation was released. Inadvertently, these sub-optimal releases have significant impact on DHQ’s desire to meet some of its operations and welfare projections.” General Olonisakin stated.
He also added that the DHQ has successfully implemented the 2018 Budget in line with the policy thrust of due process, accountability and transparency, which was done with the funds made available to them.
The visit, before coming to an end had a close door session where operational brief and other details were discussed.
