Rukuba Road Killings Worry Plateau Elders Forum

The Plateau Elders Forum has expressed sadness over the breach of peace in some parts of Plateau State following the reported outbreak of violence and skirmishes along Rukuba Road Jos on Saturday 14th August, 2021 which left scores of commuters who were said to be on transit to Ikare Ondo State dead and many injured.

The Forum consoled with the families of the deceased and the government of Ondo State over what the group described as “avoidable tragedy”

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Gideon Mitu, the group strongly condemned any act of violence, destruction of lives and property at the slightest provocation and suspicion.
The statement said the people of Plateau State have long been known to be peaceful, humane and hospitable, which made the State to be tagged the “Home of Peace and Tourism”.

The group said Plateau people believe in oneness, respect and value for human life.

“We hope that this unfortunate tragedy should not give the State and its Citizens bad image or lead to reprisal attacks”

“The Plateau Elders Forum urges the security agencies to always be proactive in the discharge of its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, so as to give all Citizens a sense of belonging and communality”

“Finally, the Forum calls for fervent prayers across all faiths and beliefs for peaceful coexistence along all citizens of Plateau State” the statement concluded.
