Riyom Youth Council Admonishes Govt on Drastic Action to Bring an End to Violent Attacks in the Area

Youths in Riyom Local Government Area have appealed to government to take drastic measures that will end continuous killings in the area.

Chairman of Riyom Youth Council, Solomon Dachung made the appeal when he spoke with newsmen after meeting with district chairmen of the youth body at the Local Government secretariat.

Dachung said the meeting was to suggest ways of addressing the persistent attacks on some communities in the Local Government.

The chairman of the youth council in Riyom said following renewed attacks on Tan-Jol and other communities in the area, more than 35 youths have been killed and thousands rendered homeless.

The youth activist disclosed that the attackers often unleash mayhem on locals in their homes, at worship centers and on their farms, killing the victims and destroying crops.

He lamented a looming danger of food crises in the state in view of the contributions of the people of Riyom to food security.

Dachung commended men of the special task force and the Police for their effort at ensuring there is law and order in the area and urged them to involve some locals who can volunteer intelligence reports to them as adopted by “operation lafiya dole” in ending insurgency in the northeast.

Northern Zonal Coordinator of the Plateau Youth Council, Gyang Mwadkon Fwet commended the youths in Riyom for their unity and disclosed that his office will embark on a tour to IDP camps in the zone on the 29th of June, 2018.

Earlier, the council had agreed to come up with a committee that cut across the 3 districts of the Local Government to look into the remote causes of the attacks and profer solutions on how to address the issue.
