“POSITIONING YOURSELF FOR LEADERSHIP” BEING A PAPER PRESENTED BY REP. I. D. GYANG, SENATOR ELECT PLATEAU NORTH AND MEMBER REPRESENTING BARKIN LADI/RIYOM FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY AT THE 2019 CHANGE MAKERS LEADERSHIP AND MENTORING CONFERENCE ON THURSDAY 30TH MAY, 2019 AT KORRETS HAMLET JOS, PLATEAU STATE

Protocol,

Leadership is critical to the growth, survival and development of institutions, organizations, corporations and nations among others.

It has been said severally that nations either rise or fall on leadership.

Given the vital place of leadership, we can’t afford to leave it to chance.

Today’s topic is apt particularly as it is addressing a student population that has a future to look up to, or better still, a future to prepare towards.

Positioning for leadership recognizes the fact that there is a space awaiting to be stepped into and be occupied in the leadership quadrant.

There will always be a leadership space and roles not only in governmental and public institutions but also in the private sector.

The leadership space and roles await all of you. Being students today is a pointer to the fact that tomorrow will soon be here. For tomorrow to find us relevant and fit for the leadership roles, there are things we must do today.

These things among many include:

  1. PREPARATION:
As future leaders, today is an opportunity to prepare. This is the season of rigorous preparation, to yield ourselves to schooling, grooming, mentoring and coaching.
There is a making, growing and grooming.

Timothy was admonished by his mentor, Apostle Paul to study and become proficient in his area of gifting so as to be equipped for the leadership role ahead of him. See 2 Timothy

It is better to prepare and wait for opportunity than for opportunity to find you unprepared.

  1. SELF DISCOVERY:
Every has his/her gifting and talents.
Develop those gifting and talents until they become noticeable and attractive to your world.
The world will come to you by reason of the product and quality of your gifting and talents.

David as a young boy was taken into the King’s palace by reason of his talent of playing the harp!
That opened him up to other opportunities that led him to become the king!!

Don’t look down on your gifts and talents.
Develop yourself so that tomorrow finds you ready for leadership.

  1. PLACE OF ROLE MODELS:
Role Models are persons that can serve as examples to inspire and motivate us.
Persons that have attained greatness or become stars in their fields of specialization. Sports, Football, Academia, Business, Science etc!!!

There is a you that your world is eagerly waiting for.

  1. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE:
There is nothing we see today that was not made possible by some persons.
All things are possible to those who believe!!!
If others defied the odds to attain great heights, so can you! Only believe!!!

Thank you so very much and God bless.
