Protests rock Jos University Teaching Hospital

For the second time in
two weeks, staff of the Jos University Teaching Hospital have again protested over the
alleged refusal of the Chief Medical Director, Professor
Edmund Banwat to address the contending issues militating against the smooth operation of the hospital.

reports that the latest
protest against the JUTH
Management by the Nurses and Midwives yesterday is coming after resident doctors at the hospital, penultimate week ,led a protest against the hospital
management accusing
it of staff persecution,
secret retrenchment and
disobedient to judicial
pronouncements among
others.

This is even as the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria had also accused the CMD of poor
management of the hospital, threatening to shut down the health institution at the end
of November if there was no improvement in the services at the hospital.

In the latest protest, the
Nurses and Midwives
disrupted activities at the
hospital accusing the CMD of withholding their call and shift Duty allowances as well
as wrongful application of no work no pay.

Some of the placards read:
‘’ Banwat stop destroying
JUTH with poor managent’’, JUTH CMD stop further deductions on our call and shift duty allowances’, We say No to No Work No Pay’
JUTH management should stop staff persecution’’ among others.

Chairman of National
Association of Nigerian
Nurses and Midwives,
Vongdip Lashin who
addressed journalists said his members had suffered so much in the hands of JUTH
Management despite their continuous dedication and
sacrifices in the course of their duties.

Committee, warned that,
the Convention should
not be conducted in a
manner that could plunge the party into fresh crisis.

He wants leaders of
the party to avoid the
temptation of taking
over the place of the
convention and the rights
of the delegates to choose
leaders for the Party.
He said, “The next
convention is critical to
the survival of the party.
My position is that the
party should organize an
all-inclusive, transparent,
acceptable, and credible
convention that would
rebrand the PDP and
show our platform as a
truly democratic party.

“Therefore, I am against all forms of manipulations,
intimidations, blackmail
and imposition of
candidates. For me, there
should be no imposition
at all.

By the maladministration
and mismanagement of the only federal tertiary health institution in Plateau state which is a feeder over nine states within the North
Central geopolitical of our country.

We want the people to know that the management of JUTH has consistently
and deliberately disregarded the welfare and statutory
rights and privileges of its hardworking and dedicated staff who have continuously sacrificed and even bled to ensure uninterrupted services in the hospital to the benefit of humanity despite the sheer wickedness and highhandedness of the CMD.

We want all stakeholders to intervene in this matter so as to save the hospital from total collapse.

The Chairman who
said they had exhausted
every avenue in trying to
make the CMD change his antiworkers’ policies called on stakeholders in the state and other Nigerians to
intervene on their situation so as to safe the hospital from total collapse.
