This is sequel to the University Council’s consideration of the recommendation of the University Senate following their nomination after the expiration of the tenure of their predecessors. Their appointment took effect from Monday, 8th December, 2014 and is for a renewable term of two years each.

This is sequel to the University Council’s consideration of the recommendation of the University Senate following their nomination after the expiration of the tenure of their predecessors. Their appointment took effect from Monday, 8th December, 2014 and is for a renewable term of two years each.

This was contained in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos, Thursday, signed by the institution’s Principal Assistant Registrar, (Information and Publications) Abdullahi Abdullahi.

Before his appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Ochekpe was the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Deputy Director, Office of Research and Development, University of Jos. He had served as a Director, Services, National Agency for Food & Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as well as Deputy-Director (Principal Research fellow)/Head of Department, National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research & Development (NIPRD).

He has held several other administrative positions in the University including Deputy Dean – Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

A 1980 Graduate of Pharmacy from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ochekpe took up appointment with University of Jos in March 1989 as Lecturer 1/Departmental Coordinator. He was promoted Professor of Pharmacy in October 2009 and appointed Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in October, 2014.

Professor Ochekpe, who has received extensive training in the field of Pharmacy in Nigeria and the United Kingdom among others, is a member of many professional bodies including Fellow of the Pharmaceutical
Society of Nigeria. He obtained many Scholastic honours which include Scottish Education Department Award for Ph.D. Work (1985 – 1988) and Commonwealth Science Council for participating in the multi-stakeholder meeting on the state of traditional medicine.

He has authored and collaborated in the publication of many academic works especially in the field of Pharmacy.

Similarly, appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) is Professor Teresa Nwuese Nmadu from the Department of Business Management, University of Jos. Professor Nmadu, who is the University’s first female DVC, began her career in the University in January 1993.

She obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in 1979.
Prof. Nmadu has served as Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies as well as Director, Division of General Studies, Unijos.

She is a Senior Member, Society for Human Resource Management, United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship Educators, Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Associate Member of the Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria and Member, The Academy of Management, Nigeria.

Professor Nmadu has published many articles in reputable journals both nationally and internationally.

Both Deputy Vice-Chancellors have since assumed office.
