With less than three weeks to the general elections, the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiating Council, has given the Plateau State Government a two weeks ultimatum to resolve the lingering labour issues plaguing the state.

Briefing journalists in Jos, on Wednesday, the State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Jibrin Bancir, lamented the delay and indiscriminate payment of salaries and pension entitlements of retirees.

Bancir said, “The State Government owes Civil Servants three months arrears of salaries, since the month of October 2014, and we are getting fed-up of this blatant injustice”.

Bancir said, “The State Government owes Civil Servants three months arrears of salaries, since the month of October 2014, and we are getting fed-up of this blatant injustice”.

Speaking further, he said “the organized labour observed that retirees are being coerced and short changed in the computation of their severance allowance of 55% without any recourse to an agreement entered into by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on the full implementation of National Minimum Wage.

“Fellow Comrades, despite our earlier position on this issues of non-remittance of deductions made on workers’ salary for FMBN housing scheme and our calls for such deduction to be remitted to the coffer of Federal Morgage Bank, the State Government has refused to do so, thereby denying the contributors an access to their legitimate money.

The Unions warned that, government’s failure to remit the deductions will force the organized labour to ask its members to discontinue with the scheme in the State.
