Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Prof. Sheni, has announced that the institution is in need of N4.5 billion to develop its infrastructure. The VC stated that funding was one of the major challenges of the institution. “We need more than N100 million monthly for running of the university successfully,” he said.
“This university is a young one that is in dire need of funds for the desired transformation and development in order to catch up with other institutions. If not for TETFund, it would have been so bad for us as a university in terms of infrastructural development, as virtually most of the buildings here are erected by it Tetfund,” he added.
Sheni disclosed that, since the inception of the university, the best the institution has ever received from the past government as subvention was N1 billion. He said since ex-Gov. Jonah Jang laid the foundation stones for three projects – Library complex, multi-purpose Hall and fencing of the institution in 2012, none had been completed.
Sheni said the institution was going to establish a Consultancy Unit to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). He, therefore, called on public-spirited donors, corporate bodies and local governments to come and invest in the institution by building students’ hostels.
