COMMENDATION TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY FOR SUMMONING THE PRESIDENT ON INCESSANT KILLINGS NATIONWIDE

Government core mandate and cardinal responsibilities involve among many others the protection of lives and property of the citizens as well as the welfare of its citizenry.

When government fails in the aforementioned responsibilities it could lead to distrust and lack of confidence from the citizens.

It is in the light of the above that we write to commend the National Assembly Senate and House of Representarives for their decision to summon the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to speak to Nigerians who he represents on the spates of insecurity bedeviling the Nation.

In Nigeria today, there is no day that innocent persons are not killed in large numbers.

States such as Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, Enugu, Delta, Yobe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno etc have come under heavy attacks which led to the loss of numerous lives and property.

The nation has come under heavy and series of attacks from the Boko Haram insurgents and herdsmen attacks causing havoc with impunity.

As a nation, we are at a stage of uncertainty and killings has become like a norm to us.

All Nigerians must see the incessant attacks by those who don’t mean well for the Country as a national challenge and threat to our national security, unity, peaceful coexistence, prosperity, growth and development.

The spate of attacks, killings, burning of property and takeover of lands illegally poses great threat to the lives of the people.

It is obvious that the Federal Government and security agencies are overwhelmed by the activities of Herdsmen in recent times.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has failed in his constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives of the people he swore to protect.

There is absence of the will power to curb the insecurity ravaging the people instead it is being treated with kid gloves.

There is also lack of practical steps, reliable and people-oriented policies toward addressing the critical humanitarian challenges confronting the people from the series of attacks, killings and burning of property. The physiological needs of the people are not being attended to. Some States have been completely neglected while the Northeastern States are given serious Federal Government attention a disposition that depicts social injustice and being bias to sensitive issues.

It is very pertinent for the President to address the nation of the strategies and steps put in place to address the security concerns in Nigeria.
The President should therefore appear before a joint session of the National Assembly and explain to Nigerians what he is doing to bring an end to the barbaric, inhuman and wicked onslaughts on innocent Nigerians.

We wish to condemn in strongest possible terms the continuous killings in Plateau, Benue, Kaduna, Taraba, Yobe, Adamawa, Borno, Enugu, Delta and Kogi States. We pray for the souls of those killed rest in peace while consoling those affected either directly or indirectly.

As a peace-loving and progressive group, we will continue to support all efforts of government and other well meaning individuals and groups aimed towards unity, peace, harmonious living, prosperity, growth and development.

Long live Plateau State
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
