Plateau Youth Council Holds General Assembly and International Youth Day Celebration.

The Plateau State Youth Council (PYC) under the leadership of Dr. Fabong Jemchang today 29th August, 2018 held its General Assembly and International Youth Day.

The event with the theme “Safe Spaces for Youth” held at the Azi Nyako Youth Centre Jos, Plateau State.

The event was well attended by the Local Government Youth Council Leaders, Zonal Leaders, Central Working Committee, delegates across the 17 LGAs, PYC Veterans across the State, Pressmen, Youth Leaders and Top Government Functionaries both at the State and Federal Levels.

Director General of Plateau State Peace Building Agency, Mr. Joseph Lengmang who spoke on the theme of the day said youths constitute 70% of the population of Nigeria and Africa as a Continent.
He challenged the youth to use such numerical strength positively.

He said most cases of violence crisis be it ethnic, religious and political are carried out by youth, meaning they are not using their potentials and numerical strength positively.

He further charged them to be agents of peace building and establish sound and reliable network that would be of immense benefits to them, the society, State, Nation and World.
He challenged them on the negative use of the social media towards promoting unhealthy tendencies such as hate speeches, fake news and divisive contents.

He said they must unite, promote peace and be ready to transform the society.

The Director General of Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Sir Joseph Ari commended the Youth Council for the laudable initiative and said he look forward towards more of such.
He charged the youths towards self development and making proper and effective use of the Information and Communication Technology.

He said the ITF has great programmes that would benefit the youths and said he is ready to partner with the PYC to bring positive development.
He admonished the youths to work towards using the engagements to bring forth fruitful results.

Commissioner of Science and Technology, Hon. Dan Manjang commended the youth for the event and charged them on putting their talents to effective use so that they can achieve their full potentials.
He said the youth must unite, love one another, do away with unhealthy sentiments and support one another.
He went further to charge them to embrace the technological advancements to their advantage. He told them to keep praying for the government who is committed to bettering the plights of the youths.

Representative of the Executive Governor of Plateau State and Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Victor Lapang told the youth to be more strategic and use their talents well.
He attributed his political growth to the massive supports from the youth. He said he went to the Plateau State House of Assembly when he was below 30 years old.

He told the youth not to misuse their time and God-given potentials.

Director General of Plateau Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (PLASMEDA) Mr. Haggai H. Gutap said the Agency is working hard to reduce poverty and empower the youths.

He said many people have been trained by the agency and plans are on to empower those with rich business proposal and registered companies towards assisting them with funding.
He called on the youth to remain positive, believe in themselves and focus on value addition.

The Chairman Plateau State Youth Council, Dr. Fabong Jemchang in his speech thanked the youths for the supports he has been enjoying and promised not to disappoint them.
He said though the journey is challenging, God has been helping them to pilot the affairs of the Council diligently and credibly.
He said Nigeria’s youths are not lazy but industrious, very brilliant and can compete with youth in any part of the world.
He said they are committed to uniting the youth irrespective of ethnic, religious and political inclinations.
He charged the delegates on effective use of time by saying disregard for time has brought about baseless and unnecessary debates on social media.
He charged the youths to discard procrastination and embrace excellence. He admonished them on having positive mindsets.

He have brief account of stewardship and saidh within one year they have trained over 1,000 youths and provided many with means of livelihood through PLASMEDA.

He said they have visited troubled areas in the State and displaced persons across the State.

Chairman Larger House of the PYC, Chief George Makwal charged the youths on unity as well as work towards a safer and better State.

He called on government to give attention to Kugiya Market Road which is terribly bad.

The Chairman of PYC, Dr. Fabong later gave a comprehensive Financial Report of the Council which was adopted and a five-man Audit Committee under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ezekiel Dauda Daschen a seasoned Accountant was constituted in line with PYC constitution to audit the financial report and report back to the NWC within a month from today.
