Plateau would conduct LGA polls if security agencies gives us clearance – Gov Lalong

Plateau state governor Simon Lalong has said that state would conduct local government elections if security agencies give them go ahead to do so.
Lalong stated on Sunday in Jos at interdenominational Thanksgiving service to mark democracy day and 3rd anniversary of his administration.
The governor said that the elections were postponed because of security report from security agencies.
“I will soon meet with security agencies in the state to brief me, if they say that situation is conducive, we will go ahead and conduct the elections.
“It is not because we don’t want to conduct local government elections but we don’t want to do it at the expense of lives, ” he said.
He thanked the people of the state for contributing to the return of peace on the Plateau and urged all to continue to pray for its sustenance.
Lalong commended members of the National Assembly from Plateau for working in unity towards progress of the state irrespective of party differences.
He said that the National Assembly members have been making useful suggestions to have best to move the state forward.
The governor equally appreciated the State House of Assembly and the Judiciary for the cordial relationship existing between them and the executive arm.
He said that such relationship contributed significantly to the success recorded by his administration.
Rev. Dr Soja Bewarang, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) who spoke at the occasion urged Nigerians to always thank God in every situation to attract more blessings.
The CAN Chairman in his sermon said that there may be challenges ranging from Boko Haram, kidnappings and Fulani herdsmen killings but there werwle also many reasons to thank God.
“Thanksgiving is becoming very scarce, ingratitude is becoming the order of the day.
“In Theselonians 5:18, the Bible says ‘in everything we must give thanks to God, for this is the will of God.
“God will see us through the challenges and the calamities if we learn to thank him,” he advised.
He said that Plateau was blessed with fertile land, clement weather and many other things that the people must always thank God for having them.
Rev Fr David Ajang, Chaplain, Government House Chapel Jos prayed to God to continue to bless and protect Gov. Simon Lalong administration.
Fr Ajang said that election periods were desperate times for some people who desire to be elected.
“Some take desperate measures to achieve their desires but we pray that their desperation would not cause problems for the state,”.
Our correspondent reports that prayers were offered by different clerics for peace in Plateau and Nigeria.
Others prayed for the success Gov. Simon Lalong led administration in the state.
The Democracy Day activities commenced on Friday with the Juma’at prayers, followed by Golf Tournament on Safurday at the Lamingo Golf Club Jos.
There were goodwill messages were given by Sen Joshua Dariye, Senator and former Governor, Hon Peter Azi, Speaker of the State Assembly and Justice Yakubu Dakwak, the State Chief Judge.
Others Da Jacob Gyang Buba, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman Plateau State traditional council and Hon Latep Dabang, APC State Chairman.
