Plateau university VC commends Lalong,TETFUND ,NEEDS Assessment over interventions ,growth of Institution

Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos Professor Yohanna Daniel Izam has commended Plateau State Government, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and NEEDS Assessment funded by the Federal Ministry of Education for their interventions and attributed the growth of the university so far to the various interventions made by these organizations.
He stated this when he received the Plateau State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Petition led by its Chairman Hon. Peter Gyendeng in his office on Friday .
Professor Izam said interventions from TETFund and NEEDS are instrumental to many of the projects executed in the institution.
The Vice Chancellor said TETFund recently approved an intervention of Five Hundred Million (N500,000.000.00) for the university and modalities for accessing the funds were being vigorously pursued in view of felt needs of the University for urgent expansion to improve its carrying capacity.
He said the monthly allocations coming to the University from both the state and Local governments was in- adequate in meeting the needs of the University and appealed to the lawmakers and the state government to consider upgrading the allocations to enable the University cope with its increasing demands including payment of staff salaries.
Professor Izam said the University currently runs 17 programmes out of which only two got full accreditation while the remaining 15 will be re visited in May this year, stressing that, “To us the accreditation exercise is very important and needs to be achieved otherwise we will face very difficult challenges or suffer set back.”
On the issues of admission and employment, the Vice Chancellor said the management of the University is mindful of the fact the University is state owned and as such efforts must be made to strike a balance in subsequent employments and admissions so that all the 17 Local Government in the state will have fair representation.
He appealed to the lawmakers to help the University to mobilize their constituents through awareness visits to take advantage of University Education that the University is providing so as to ensure that each LGA fill its quota in the institution.
On her part, the Bursar of the University Mrs. Anna Nanchin Christopher Fakah said the University has keyed into Single Treasury Account (STA) system adding that the account of the University has been audited by both external and internal Auditors and that the University is up to date in auditing its accounts.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Peter Gyendeng commended the management of the University for being up to date in auditing the university account saying some of the institutions they have visited so far are lagging behind in terms auditing their accounts.
Gyendeng said they were on fact finding mission to all the state owned tertiary institutions to ascertain whether or not their accounts have been are audited.
He advised the management to face the accreditation exercise with all seriousness it deserves in order to get all the programmes run by the University accredited saying the survival of the University is paramount to them as lawmakers and representatives of the people.
