Following the industrial action embarked upon by the Joint Union of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI ), the Plateau Regeneration Group has alleged that the decision of the Union to embark on the strike especially when the process for their payment was already concluded showed that it had some political undertone.
“To us the strike was motivated by politicians and some officials of JUPTI who are anti Government ”
“This is clear because we gathered that JUPTI was aware that the process for those payment were almost concluded and were to be paid on the day they chose be commence the strike. But because they were bent on humiliating Government for political reasons, they decided to go ahead even when their members had started seeing alerts for the payment arrears. ”
It could be recalled that the Joint Union of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI) on Monday embarked on an indefinite strike action .
The union said that it embarked on the strike following the elapse of seven days ultimatum given to the Plateau state government to pay all outstanding and withheld salaries inherited from previous administration on or before 31 August, 2018 without response from the government.
Reacting to the development Plateau Regeneration Group PRG in a statement signed by Pam Datiri the Public Relations officer of the group on Tuesday described the strike action as political motivated .
It is a known fact in Plateau that Gov Simon Lalong is doing excellently well when it comes to the welfare of workers in Plateau as he is not owing salaries and just yesterday some members of the Joint Union of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI confirmed to us that they have started receiving their alerts for the no work no pay arrears owed them.
He said on assumption of office Gov Simon Lalong immediately settled out of court the issue of no work no pay he inherited from the previous administration .
Similarly the Simon Lalong led Government recently commenced payment of workers in 17 councils of the state who suffered the no-work-no-pay policy of former administration in Plateau.
The previous administration had in 2014, refused to pay workers four months’ salaries when they went on strike in protest over non-implementation of payment of their minimum wage during the period.
On assumption of office ,Lalong settled out of court with workers and commenced payment of the no work no pay owed and has been meeting the expectation of workers .
“This is in fulfillment of the promise made to the staff by our loving Governor Simon Lalong, when he asked the workers to withdraw the court case in Abuja for amicable settlement.
“We commend Lalong for keeping to his promise of prompt Payment of workers salaries .
He stressed that it was unfair for JUPTI to engage in clandestine meetings with some opposition politicians where they were instigated to proceed on strike, at the detriment of the students’ population.
