Plateau Task Force Recovers 19 Vehicles, Says Exercise Will Reduce Cost of Governance

The Task Force Set up by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang on the recovery purported Government property has hinted that assets to be recovered will reduce the cost of governance of the present administration in the State.
Secretary of the Task Force, Barr. Pam Gyang who represented the Chairman of the Committee, Nde Isaac Wadak who he said was in other engagements of the Committee dropped the hint when he led other Members of the Task Force to ascertain the 19 cars recovered so far and other assets alleged to have been illegally sold to individuals in the State by the immediate past administration.
He said some of the vehicles recovered have been allocated to government officials for official use.
He frowned at political appointees who after serving will convert public property for private use saying the Task Force make sure such assets are recovered from such officers and returned to the State to save the government the cost of acquiring same assets.
He called on Political appointees to serve meticulously and with integrity when given the opportunity instead of converting public property into private use.
According to him, instead of acquiring new assets, those assets recovered will be put to good use by the government and said in so doing, the cost of governance will be significantly reduced and funds meant for same will be utilized for other better purposes.

The Task Force was also at the Government Green Land located near the Dam around Yelwa Club Jos South LGA to verify the allegation by a whistleblower suggesting the lands were illegally sold to individuals by the immediate past administration.

The Task Force also met with the Leaders of the Bukuru Cattle Traders Association of Nigeria for on-the-spot assessment of the government property (land) located near Kugiya Market Jos South Local Government Area which parts were alleged to have been illegally sold to individuals who have raised structures on them.
Chairman of the Association, Alh. Bala Muhammad appreciated the visit of the Task Force and promised to accord them the necessary support to achieve their mandate.
Deputy Chairman of the Association, Mr Adams Nyoman disclosed that they were allocated land to carry out their cattle business but to their greatest surprise parts of the land were being sold to individual who have raised buildings while others are already encroaching into the land. He expressed satisfaction with the setting up of the Task Force and urged them to look deeply into the encroachment on the land.
Head of the Sub-Committee on building and land, Hon. David Zoyong assured them that the Task Force is working tirelessly to recover all property which were sold without following due process.

At the Plateau Agricultural Development Programme (PADP) Office Jos North LGA, the Task Force through Hon. David Zoyong Jang decried the destruction of government buildings in the name of mining activities carried out by a company.
He said though the Task Force is aware of an official protocol to the extraction of mineral deposits there, it will dig more to know why such risk involving the destruction of buildings will be allowed to take place. He also frowned at the excavation that left huge pits in certain offices that are yet to be reclaimed by the company that undertook the evacuation of the mineral deposits. A visibly angry Hon. David wondered why mineral deposits extraction of that magnitude will be carried out without considering the devastating impacts on the environment and existing government building/property.
He urged the company to report itself and do what is expected of it in line with the agreement reached while investigation on the official protocol is ongoing.

Speaking shortly after some verification exercises, Barr. Pam Gyang Secretary of the Task Force again reassured the Citizens of the State that the Task Force is not out to witch-hunt anyone but to identify, locate and recover Government property that were alleged to have been auctioned, boarded or possessed illegally.
He stated that the exercise is to safeguard the collective patrimony of Plateau people.
He said the Task Force has comprehensive list of all the vehicles acquired by government in the last eight years and with the cooperation of the heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, they are working round the clock to ensure they are intact and not converted to private use by anyone.
