Plateau State Witnesses Peaceful Protest, Military Urged to Protect Law-abiding Citizens and Assets

As the Nationwide peaceful protest tagged “#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria” is being held across Nigeria, Plateau State was not left behind as Citizens mostly Youths came out in their numbers to register their grievances on the economic hardships, insecurity and unfriendly policies of government which according to them has brought about untold hardships and thrown many to abject poverty.

In all the places visited across Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, the conduct of the protesters was peacefully and in a civil without any form of violence and hostility.

The protesters were seen carrying placards with various inscriptions that suggested that they are are uncomfortable with the way and manner the government is treating the hardships being faced by the citizens.

Former Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Barr. Solomon Dalung and Prophet Isa El-buba General Overseer of El-Buba Outreach Ministries International (EBOMI) and President El-buba Outreach Ministries were sighted leading the peaceful procession by the Protesters across the major roads in Jos, the Plateau State Capital chanting songs of disenchantment.
The protesters are agitating for a reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) widely known as “Petrol”, reversal to the old electricity tariffs, tackling of insecurity, reduction in tax rate, exemption of food items from tax, reduction on cost of governance, the implementation of policies that are people-oriented and address the persistent increase in prices of goods/services, cost of living and many more.

The professionalism, patriotism and high sense of discipline demonstrated by the Nigerian Military and other security agencies stood out all through the first Day of the protest which started on 1st August, 2024.

In demonstrating his unwavering commitment to ensure hoodlums are not allowed to hijack the process, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Jos Plateau State and Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar went round for an assessment of the level of compliance.
He had the opportunity of to interface with the Military Personnel drafted to maintain law and order charging them to ensure that law-abiding citizens, assets of the Citizens and government are all protected against any form of destruction and looting.

He commended the level of professionalism and discipline being displayed by the security personnel so far in the State.
He urged the personnel not to hesitate to deal decisively with those who may want to hijack the peaceful protest to unleash violence, destroy property and loot.

Our Correspondent visited Bukuru Market, Zawan, Dadin Kowa, Old Airport Roundabout, Secretariat Junction Flyover, Terminus Market Jos and Abattoir to monitor the protest.
