Plateau State PDP Ward to Ward Protests the Detention of Sen. Jang by EFCC, Says it is Constitutional Breach
The PDP Ward to Ward Group yesterday protested the continuous detention of the immediate past Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau State Northern Senatorial Zone, His Excellency Sen. Jonah David Jang by the EFCC since 7th May, 2018.
Plateau State Coordinator of the group, Hon. Solomon Shitnaan described Sen. Jang as a leader who served diligently to transform Plateau State and entrenched good governance when he held sway as Chief Executive of the State.
He called Sen. Jang an Architect of modern infrastructural development who left indelible Footprints that would not be erased or forgotten for a long period of time.
Hon. Shitnaan said the indefinite detention of Sen. Jonah Jang, a Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who has served this Country meritoriously as a Military Governor, Civilian Governor and still serving as a Senator is an abuse of his fundamental human right, a showcase of impunity, disrespect for rule of law and highly condemnable.
He said detention of such elder statesman beyond the 48 hrs stipulated by the act that established the EFCC without charging him to court is illegal, unconstitutional and abuse of his fundamental human rights.
He said members of his group were mobilized all across the 17 LGAs of the State to protest the incarceration of their political leader.
He said their protest was to ensure the right things are being done and to call on an immediate stop to the continuous abuse of constitutional provision.
The rule of law, constitutional provisions must be strongly upheld and the fundamental human rights of people should not be breached, he concluded.
