Plateau State House of Assembly Marks its Mid-Term in Office

AS the Plateau State House of Assembly marks its mid terms in office, members of the House have called on the state government to execute the various individual members constituency projects so that their impact can be felt at their constituency level. The House made the request during a special sitting to mark the first two years of its four year tenure.

In a midterm report that was read on the floor of the House by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Peter Azang Azi, said since the inauguration of the eight Assembly, it has been relentless in its desire to gave the Plateau people of the state in a robust representative capacity.

The speaker said members were concerned with the people oriented response to issues of insecurity that was bedeviling the state before their coming on board, which has led to the House constituting an adhoc committee to initiate a dialogue among conflicting communities in the state which resulted the Peace Co-existence of those working community.

The speaker who based his mostly on the constitutional responsibilities of the legislature said during the period under review, the state assembly has tremendously made advisement in aspects of legislation as regard to law making oversight function and representation”.

On bills, he disclosed that a total of 28 bills were presented on the floor of the House and 14 were passed into law, with 8 in the first session while 6 in the second session and the remaining 14 were at committee stage.

Within the period under review he said the House considered and adopted 30 motions, of which 20 were adopted in the first session while 10 in the second session.

According to Rt. Hon. Azi, 26 matters of urgent public importance were presented even as 18 were adopted during the first session while 8 in the second session of the Assembly.

The House in its two years of inauguration, he said have carried out oversight functions which included the screening of commissions, chairmen and members of statutory Boards, Parastatals and agencies in the state.

According to the speaker, the House has also monitored the implementation of the 2015 and 2016 budget while that of 2017 was still ongoing.

In the area of representation the speaker explained that the House members have in the past two years adopted democratic approaches for effective representation and contact.
