Plateau State govt. to re-orientate residents on rail services

News available to ViewPointNigeria indicates that residents of plateau state have been under utilizing the rail way system in Jos.

On Tuesday, The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Pam Dongs, encouraged residents of the state to patronize the train services in Plateau State in order to reduce stress on the roads.

He said, “Last year Plateau government had a railway service that was plying Kuru to Jos but for unknown reasons there was no patronage and it stopped and this calls for orientation to use the railway again.

Speaking, Mr. Dongs said there is a need to re-orientate the people on the benefits of rail transport. He said the services are cheaper and they can carry bulky goods.

Dongs also stated that patronizing the railway system will aid in reducing the pressure on the roads, thereby increasing the lifespan of the roads. He said, ‘’ If the railways are under-utilized, then the aim is defeated, the whole idea is for trains to carry full load at a time so as to enable us manage its operations properly‘’.

The commissioner said it is cheap and affordable and if well maintained, it will make movement easier for Nigerians as railway perform many public utility services.

He said that there are plans to build better and more conducive couches as well as complete the railway tracks.
