Reports reaching the ViewPointNigeria news desk suggests that the Plateau State Government has awarded a N749 million contract to 10 different contractors for the revival of it’s moribund newspaper, the “Nigerian Standard” which was established by the Late J D Gomwalk in 1972 and has been out of circulation for over a decade.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony, the commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Abraham Yiljap stated that the newspaper, when revived would serve as a platform for information about daily happenings in the state. Further stating that the State Government had done quite a lot in attempting to advance the information sector in the past few years. He gave the example of the N2.4 billion which had already been spent on various information and communication projects as evidence of the commitment of the present administration. He reminded the audience that after the establishment of most media outfits in Plateau state (Nigerian Standard, PRTVC etc) in the late 1970s, their fortunes took a negative turn after because of the “neglect culture” of past administrations and that the Jang led administration has decided to depart from that culture in order to keep alive the legacies of the pioneers of the projects.

The commissioner confirmed that the contracts awareded will include the supply of the following –a 500KVA generator, a new printing press, the refurbishment of existing presses, the procurement of a web offset machines, purchase of 4 Hilux pick up trucks and one Toyota forerunner vehicle.
