News reaching the ViewPointNigeria newsdesks indicates that the Plateau State Government may have on Thursday 4th April, banned the operation of brothels within the state. The directive was made known by the State Commissioner for information, Mr. Abraham Yiljap in Jos after after the State Executive Council meeting.

Mr. Yiljap stated that the Jang administration had never endorsed the operation of brothels in the state and that the revenue collection board had always been cautioned against receiving any revenue from these illicit sources, which he described as detrimental to the spiritual well being of Plateau people. He therefore appealed to all brothel operators to heed the directive and close down their outfits.

It would be recalled that the Jang administration in the past had equally issued an order banning all local dry gin sales outfits (popularly called goskolo). The enforcement of the previous directive was partly successful as most of the outfits closed down shortly after the directive. It would therefore be interesting to see the level of compliance to this new order.
