The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Plateau State branch is in disarray following disagreements regarding the composition of a five man advisory committee on merger. A section of the party state executive have kicked against the decision and insisted that it won’t recognise it. The State publicity secretary Mr Moses Mandong, who lead the opposing members to address newsmen in Jos said that “the state executive did not hold any official meeting in regard to the said committee saying the action is the handiwork of the state chairman and five others who are twisting the activities of the party to the detriment of the entire executive in the state”.

He said “We have 22 executive members in the state and 15 of us are not aware of the committee and we have contacted the national secretariat over the issue and they too were not in the picture of the said committee as the merger issue is still at the national level and the national leadership of the party is the one to give the next line of action over the matter.”

Mandong questioned the eligibility of Alhaji Ibrahim Nakande, the former Minister of State for Information in chairing the committee on merger while urging the inaugurated members to stop acting on behalf of the party until a final decision is taken by the national executive. Nakande, while responding stated that Mandong was present at the inauguration of the members but did not object to the eligibility of the inaugurating team. The former minister insisted that due process was followed and some executive members were inaugurated into the committee in the full glare of State party executive.

The State CPC inaugurated the committee on Monday to represent it in talks with the All Nigerian People Party (ANPP) over a proposed merger.
