Following the hot and undiplomatic exchange of words that ensued between the Plateau State APC Chairman, Hon. Latep Dabang and the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung after the President’s Visit to the State, Hon Latep has demanded the retraction of the defamatory statement published by the Minister’s Aide, Mr. Timkat Peter.
Mr. Timkat has alleged that Hon. Latep is one of the most corrupt persons in the Present administration in the State, a statement Mr. Latep didn’t take lightly. His statement was as a result of the insult Hon. Latep made on the Minister of Youth where he called him a mad man, being sick, an idiot and fake. These insults didn’t also go down well with the Minister and his Aides.
Mr. Timkat in a post he made on the social media tagged “Latep, a face of corrupt personality on the Plateau” accused Hon. Latep of collecting the sum of N4,250,000 monthly from Transition Committee Chairmen to maintain their offices since they were appointed as well as the sum of N100,000,000 from the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization.
Statement by Latep’s legal team, SOZO Attorneys says their client is a respectable elder statesman and the Chairman of APC in Plateau State.
They said their client has never received and is not receiving the claimed amount. They further said he never received bribes or involved himself in any corrupt practice in the discharge of his duty.
They went further to say their client, Hon Latep felt disparaged, embarrassed and brought to public ridicule by the allegations published by Mr. Timkat.
The legal team said failure for Mr. Timkat to retract the statement will be visited with criminal and civil legal actions to be instituted on him.
It would be recalled that the Minister of Youth, Barr. Dalung descended heavily on the State Governor and his party was being hypocritical and deceptive by making the President commission projects executed during the past administration, not telling the President the true position of the State as well as lying and being secretive about the high indebtedness of the State who he said is almost a Trillion Naira now.
Viewpoint Nigeria will follow subsequent stories relating to this and update its readers and general public.
