Plateau Specialist Hospital Honours 2024 Retirees, Lauds Their Commitment and Exceptional Services

The management of Plateau State Specialist Hospital Jos on Friday 20th December, 2024 accorded “royal treat” to staff who retired from its service in 2024 to appreciate and honour their commitment, selfless and exceptional services rendered by the Retirees while in active service with the Tertiary Health Institution during the 2024 End of Year Dinner and Award Night which held at Zumji Event Centre Jos, Plateau State.

Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Christopher Sabo Yilgwan in his remarks lauded the remarkable contributions of the Retirees describing them as “Partners in progress” all through the period they served.

He also announced plans to make the celebration an annual event, extending future awards to outstanding active members of staff.

Prof. Yilgwan appreciated Gov. Mutfwang for making the health sector a priority and for his unwavering attention to the sector in order to take it to enviable height.

Resource Person at the event, Engr. Solomon Chikan in his presentation charged the Retirees not to relent in adding value, being productive and useful to the society and humanity. He encouraged the retirement and Guests present at the event not to see retirement as the end of life but the end to a given phase that projects them to another phase of rest and impact to the society and humanity. He admonished employees not to start preparing for retirement Five Years to retirement but right from the day they started work and avoid allowing their positions and title distract them from planning well.

Engr. Chikan said “Most of us have created and identity for ourselves synonymous to our positions we occupy and the work we do. We carry the title Director, others as who we are, so when they say now is the time to retire we think it is the end of life. Friends, coming to the end of a phase is the beginning of a bigger life. Some of us have seen it”He highlighted the benefits of planning well throughout one’s chosen career and the need to factor in retirement.

According to him, most people are unable to get to the end and transit on account of their inability to disengage and dis-identify.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Arc. Samuel Jatau congratulated the Retirees and appreciated them for their sterling services to the State and humanity. He disclosed that the Governor has great plans to make the Plateau State Specialist Hospital world-class to attract medical tourism.

He urged the medical practitioners to treat their patients professionally in order to have them back to their facilities in the future whenever the need arises. He also admonished them to keep providing their wealth of experience and expertise whenever the need arises.

He further said the deliberate intention of the Governor to the agricultural sector will bring over 300 million dollars in the first instance to the State.

Other Goodwill messages came from the Commissioner of Health Plateau Staye, Dr. Shirkuk Bako, Prof. Esther Evuladu the Representative of the Vice Chancellor University of Jos, Hon. Daniel Nanbol Lipstick Chairman Plateau State House of Assembly Committee on Health and the Chief Medical Director of the National Orthopedic Hospital Jos, Prof. Icha Inalegwu Onche who all appreciated the invaluable contributions of the Retirees and congratulated them for successful retirement. They all lauded the Chief Medical Director for recognizing, appreciating and celebrating the services rendered by the Retirees. According to them, retirement is another phase of life that will be motivated by the legacies they have left behind.

They hammered on the need for good attitude by health practitioners which they said will translate to happy patients.

They Harped on skill transfer to equip and empower those behind to avoid vacuum.They called for the right policies that will improve the Health sector.

Speaking on behalf of the Retirees, Mrs Lois Sabo appreciated the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Yilgwan and his management Team for the honour, for the outstanding leadership and expertise being demonstrated. She said the Chief Medical Director is shaping the health sector and lauded him for making their retirement a memorable experience. She also commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang for appointing Prof. Christopher Yilgwan as Chief Medical Director of the Hospital. She described him as a round peg in a round hole and the right choice for the position.

Highlights of the event were the presentation of award of excellence and gifts to the over Twenty (20) Retirees.
