The Plateau State Specialist Hospital has officially entered a new era of digital healthcare with the launch of an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, a milestone aimed at revolutionizing patient management and service delivery. The EMR rollout was commissioned by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang as part of a broader transformation of the facility, which also includes a high-tech diagnostic laboratory, a modern pediatric ward, and a new administrative block.
Governor Mutfwang, speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Democracy Day, described the project as a bold leap into modern healthcare. He emphasized that the EMR system, combined with new medical infrastructure worth over ₦2 billion, would position the hospital to offer world-class services to citizens of Plateau State and beyond.
“I am honoured to commission this facility and the EMR system, which marks a new chapter in how we deliver healthcare. This is a turning point not just for Plateau, but potentially for the region,” the governor stated.
The newly introduced EMR system will replace paper-based patient records, allowing for more efficient, secure, and accurate management of medical histories, diagnostics, and treatment plans. Healthcare professionals have hailed the development as a game-changer in clinical service delivery.
Prof. Christopher Sabo Yilgwan, Chief Medical Director of the hospital, praised the state government for its commitment to digital transformation in healthcare. He noted that the EMR system aligns the institution with global standards and enhances its ability to deliver timely and quality care.
“We are proud to say that the Plateau Specialist Hospital has now entered the digital age. With this system in place, we will improve efficiency, reduce errors, and better serve our patients,” Prof. Yilgwan said.
In addition to the EMR system, the hospital now boasts an ultra-modern diagnostic laboratory and a fully equipped pediatric ward — both of which had been previously abandoned by past administrations and completed under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership.
Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Ba’amlong, described the developments as “nothing short of miraculous.” He highlighted the revitalization of health facilities across the state and an increase in health insurance enrolment as proof of the administration’s dedication to the sector.
The event, held as part of the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations, also featured the commissioning of other key projects including the Utonkon overhead bridge-Abattoir Road, 15 brand-new Tin City Metro buses, a renovated administrative block at Plateau State Polytechnic, and the naming of a hall in honor of former Governor Joshua Dariye.
With the launch of the EMR system and accompanying infrastructure at Plateau Specialist Hospital, the state government signals a firm commitment to leveraging technology for improved public health outcomes.
