UNVEILING MY BLUE-PRINT FOR THE SOUTHERN SENATORIAL ZONE OF PLATEAU STATE:

0.0. PREAMBLE

The Southern Senatorial Zone of Plateau comprises six Local Government Areas to wit: Shendam, Mikang, Quaan Pan, Wase, Langtang North and Langtang South Local Government Areas.

I shall go into the Senate to ably and positively represent this zone by contributing to the achievement of the goals of good governance and present the pulse and heartbeat of the Southern Zone to the National Assembly, Nigeria and the world.

In tandem with the party manifesto and my desire and resolve to allow democracy make greater impact on the lives of the people of the Zone, I hereby present the following as a working document for the service I shall render to the people as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It is my desire that this shall serve as a reference point and a programme of action in our service to the people when we are eventually elected into office. I SAY, MARK MY WORD.

1.0. AGRICULTURE
Our people are basically farmers and we shall do all and everything by collaborating with the Local Governments, State and Federal Government to ensure that agricultural productivity is enhanced. In addition, we shall encourage our people to venture into new areas of agriculture as elaborated hereunder.

1.1. INTRODUCTION OF OIL PALM PLANTATIONS
I have spent considerable time in the South East of Nigeria and have realized the great economic potentials of oil palm plantations in empowering the people as well as providing employment opportunities for our teeming and able youth.

Because the soil and climate of the Southern Zone is attractive to the oil palm tree, we shall attract private investors into the Zone to establish palm plantations of about 2,000 hectres in each of the six Local Government Areas and God willing, within a span of 4 years, the result should be evident.

I bet you, so many of our youth will be gainfully employed when these activities commence.

1.2. ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SOUTHERN ZONE AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE LIMITED.

We shall establish this company as a limited liability Company as an agricultural cooperative with the six Local Government Areas as shareholders and a branch shall be opened in the Headquarters of each of the Local Government Areas.

The modalities and composition of the share holding and membership shall be worked out in consultation with the people when we get there.

The major aim of establishing this company is to help our farmers by taking off so many burdens they presently face in marketing their products, procuring inputs and equipment and generally empower the people economically through profits that will be realized from the company’s operations.

2.0. YOUTH SKILLS ACQUISITION AND EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME

We intend to deploy a different approach from the generally known ways. By this, we shall scout all around the country and arrange with renowned organizations in different sectors of the economy to assist our youth acquire skills that will economically empower them and make them employable in any of the following industries: construction, oil and gas maritime etc.
At the end of the programme we shall endeavour as much as possible to get placement for them or empower them to be on their own.

The Zone shall fight for federal employment opportunities in the Feral Civil Service, the armed forces, police etc for our youth so that we shall not be left out.

3.0. PROSPECTING FOR CRUDE OIL

I shall work assiduously to attract the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation [NNPC] to prospect for oil in the Southern Zone because our geophysical outlook is akin to areas where crude oil is produced. We can only know this if we prospect because I believe there is nothing God cannot do.

4.0. EDUCATION
The following benefits shall accrue to the people of the Zone in the education sector:

4.1. Payment of school fees for indigent students in public schools
4.2. Payment for WAEC and JAMB fees for students in public schools
4.3. Provision of scholarship to selected students of higher institutions

5.0. SPORTS
i. Establish a football academy to identify football talents within the zone and assist them achieve greater heights.
ii. Establish a Sports academy to scout and train talented sports men and women that can represent Nigeria.
iii. Establish a standing football club that we shall encourage to play in the Nigeria Professional League.
iv. Institute the Southern Zone Annual Sports Tournament

6.0. PROVISION OF INFRASTRUCTURE

We shall liaise with the state and federal governments to attract infrastructure to the zone like road construction, federal and state institutions etc that will impact on the lives of our people and empower the youth.

7.0. SECURITY MATTERS
We shall liaise with the state government and security agencies to ensure that adequate security is provided within the Southern zone to stem the tide of armed robbery, banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling etc.
8.0. HEALTH
i. Provision of First Aid Kits in all the Villages that are not close to health facilities.
ii. Free ante-natal care and delivery for all pregnant women
iii. Provision of mobile clinics for farm settlements
iv. Periodic medical outreach to be organized through our the constituency.
9.0. SOCIETAL HARMONY, PEACE AND COOPERATION

I shall as much as possible encourage communal peace and societal cohesion by working with our people to identify and solve or nip in the bud all areas of conflict. I shall encourage love and peaceful co-existence amongst the people of the zone and all resident therein.

10.0. MONTHLY TOWN HALL MEETINGS AND PARLEY WITH ROYAL FATHERS
We shall host town hall meetings on a rotational basis in each of the Local Government Areas for the following reasons:
i. Intimate the people on legislations and get contributions
ii. Assess our performance
iii. Parley with our royal fathers after the town hall meetings.
iv. Any other business or matter of necessity that the circumstances may present.

11.0. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, I want to make it clear that this shall not be the ultimate of goals. We shall be guided as well by the heartbeat and pulse of the people of the Southern wherein we may as circumstance permit add or adjust the blue-print.
I do not intend to go to the Senate clueless and without a direction. This is my road map for my constituency.
