The Secretary of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Plateau State chapter, Mohammad Nura, has said that Fulanis in the state are willing to help find a lasting solution to the violence in Plateau.

Mr. Nura said this on Tuesday in Jos, shortly after attending a security meeting convened by the Special Task Force on Jos crisis to unravel the insecurity in the northern part of the state, particularly in Riyom and Barkinladi.
Mr. Nura advised Nigerian security agents in charge of the state’s security to be neutral when dealing with matters that affects the warring communities. He accused the security agents of aggravating the situation through some of their untimely intervention during clashes between the Fulanis and the Beroms.

The secretary dismissed allegations that the Fulanis were not ready to have the Plateau unrest come to an end. He lamented that his people and members of the affected communities have lost both human and material resources to the crisis and were willing to be part of the solution to the killings of innocent people. He added that Fulanis were reasonable and responsible people, respecters of the rule law and ethics of every community they live in; and therefore, should not be seen as trouble makers at every provocation that arises.

The Fulanis were not around for Monday’s security meeting organised by the STF to which both the Beroms and Fulanis were invited. They were thought to have boycotted the peace meetings. The STF has now fixed April 29 for another meeting with both communities, to reach a common understanding on how to resolve the issues.
Hundreds of people have been killed in various communal clashes in Plateau State.
