As the twist and disagreement of who becomes the running mate to the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Sen. JT Useni continue to gather momentum with damning resultant consequences if not properly addressed, the youth loyal to the party have call for the consideration of Arc. Hart Bankat for the slot.
Their positions were made when list of possible candidates were made known without a youth among which make them feel slighted considering their numerical strength and loyalty to the party.
The youth said they are only considered when their votes, campaigns and other supports are needed but relegated when it comes to appointments and other sensitive political benefits/engagements.
The youth said having accepted the outcome of the party primaries of 30th September, 2018 which saw the oldest Aspirant emerging as flag bearer, they expect the party to bring a young, strong, healthy, vibrant, articulate, credible, competent and transparent youth as his running mate.
They said if not for the Zoning by the party that didn’t favor Arc. Hart, their supports were for him after he declared his intention to contest the position as the youngest person but later stepped down in honour of the party zoning arrangement.
The youth registered their disappointment and grievances saying they are shocked that the party never deemed it fit to consider a youth as running mate seeing the list being circulated.
They said they will not allow their exclusion remain unchecked and would do anything humanly possible to ensure inclusion and that their collective voice is heard.
“We cannot continue to be used and dumped” one said.
“If you look at those who did anti-party and defect from the party at will, they are those old folks who have benefitted immensely from the party but the youth have remained committed and loyal to the party without any reward system for them. We will no longer tolerate that” he concluded.
Another youth who don’t want his name in print said “political rewards are on earth, we cannot continue to support people who don’t cherish us or project our interest but rather are self-centered”
“We are supporting Arc. Hart Bankat for demonstrating capacity and ability in indicating interest and his loyalty to the party, he has been assisting us as supporters of the party in one way or the other and that is what the party has been unable to do” he concluded.
Another youth said, they may rethink their support for PDP and boycott the general election if the attitude of the party towards youth involvement and inclusion remains this bad. “We cannot remain where we are not respected, appreciated and cared for”
“We know those who have labored for the party, they should be considered, rewarded and celebrate” another youth opined.
“To my greatest surprise, there are names that are being considered as running mate that I am hearing for the very first time in PDP, and I wonder what informed such catastrophic decision” a youth said.
“I see a cabal hijacking the party and don’t care to know those who have been in the party and labored for it, it is sad that when we are working towards regaining power from the ruling party, the leadership in the State is not helping matters but being selfish and greedy” another youth said.
“The youths will not take it, the party either consider us or lose us, people who have and still contributing to the progress, growth and development of the party should be considered in this situation, we are not saying it must be a particular person but let the right person that would enhance our victory more importantly a youth be chosen because the youth have been shortchanged, relegated and remained subservient despite our loyalty and immense contributions to the party” another youth opined.
A Youth, Obed Manjang Christopher has this to say “I will not support any deputy above 50 years”
Mr. Obed went further to say “PDP in plateau are busy frustrating their efforts in taking back power over choice of Deputy Governor….. They had a successful primaries and to pick Deputy Governor now it’s an issue.”
A youth, Tea Gomos has this to say;
JERRY BOY PLS DO THE NEEDFUL, EXCEPT YOU WANT THE YOUTHS TO WITHDRAW THE TITLE “JERRY-BOY” FROM YOU. AND YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.
_Jerry boy & PDD EXCO should seriously Consider the youths pls! If they truly and really want to win 2019 elections_
They (delegates) made a giant “mistake” of giving us a grandfather for a Governor and we overlooked it. We’re still with the party with our respective loyalist across the state.
Pls don’t repeat the same “mistake” our delegates used by bringing an old folk or late-youth as the deputy. Thank God for the controversies coming up now in regards. Pls, this is the right time the youths should demand for a visible youth deputy for the party.
I MEAN NO DISRESPECT EITHER TO THE PARTY, JERRY BOY, ELDERS, OR THE DELEGATES. I’M JUST STATING THE OBVIOUS!_
I diplomatically share the thoughts of others & said the word “mistake”. But as a party member i understand that the delegates have spoken and it has a binding effect on all the party faithfuls. BUT WE NEED A YOUTH DEPUTY PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS_
-Comr. Tea~Gomos
Collation of the opinions of the youth was done in various social media platforms, phone calls and independent research being carried out by Viewpoint Nigeria.
