Following the dissolution of Local Government Councils in Plateau State, by Governor Simon Lalong, the PDP in the State said his action has “no effect and unenforceable”.
This was disclosed, Tuesday by the Acting Chairman of PDP in the State, Hon Raymond Dabo, while reacting to the dissolution of the Council Executives in the State.
Dabo said, “Our Chairmen remain the rightful Chief Executive Officers of their respective LGAs and have been instructed not to heed any illegal declaration.
“A government that will attempt to lord itself above other democratic structures of governance, so early in the life of its administration, must be heading on a suicide mission.
The Chairman maintained that, “Though not surprising to us, we must however inform those whose confidence in the current administration is hinged on the Governor’s qualification as a Minister in the temple of Justice (Barrister) that they are in for a big surprise.
“The determination of the APC to abolish Law in a bid to satisfy the insatiable greed of her political Elite at the expense of the State is as a result of poor advise which would have been avoidable had there been a substantive Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
They PDP also alleged that the Governor has awarded a N2.4 billion contract for the renovation of the State Presidential Lodge, saying is a misappropriation, duplication and poor prioritization of government project.
“The said Presidential Lodge had been renovated by the immediate past administration, we wonder whether suddenly, priorities have change for the administration. He stressed.
“We condemn this said misapplication of State fund as a betrayal of all Plateau people”.
The PDP call on the citizenry to wake up and defend the hard earned democracy.
Reacting to PDP’s briefing, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Simon Lalong, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, in a press statement, said, “The Call by the PDP is the Height of irresponsibility of a party that supposedly should understand how remedy and relieve can be sought under democracy if they feel their is a breach of the law.
“Their call is recipe for anarchy and the PDP must understand that should their instigation and incitement bring about any break down of law and order, the full wieght of the law will be brought to bear in dealing with situation. He warned.
It would be that Governor Simon Lalong dissolved the 17 Local Government Councils in the State.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon Rufus Bature, and made available to journalists, Monday in Jos.
It reads, “The Governor of Plateau State Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Edict establishing the Local Government Council Administration in the State, has approved the dissolution of the Seventeen (17) Local Government Councils in the State.
