Plateau LGA Polls: Hon. Laven vows to reclaim stolen mandate at the tribunal

Langtang North chairmanship candidate of the People,s Democratic Party PDP in the just concluded local government Council election Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven has vow to do everything humanly possible within the ambit of the law to ensure he recover his stolen mandate which the people gave him in a free, fair and peaceful conducted LGC election.

He pointed out that it is very disheartening to note that the mandate given to him by the good people of Langtang north was brazenly subverted as the chairmanship candidate of the APC Nanloh Amos Kparnim, was declared as the winner of the election by PLASIEC.

According to him, this development is totally unacceptable and a complete rape on democracy and its processes saying he will go to tribunal to seek for redress of the injustice melted on him and the good people of Langtang north.

The PDP chairmanship candidate made his position known in a press statement issued to newsmen in Jos argued that it is regrettable that governor Simon Lalong who is a direct beneficiary of a free and fair democratic process in 2015 decided to ignore the court injunction of the Federal High Court in Jos, restraining him from swearing-in the loser and engaged himself in an ambiguous adventure.

Our correspondent recalled that following the outcry that trailed the local government polls in the state governor Simon Lalong had through the state commissioner for information and communication Hon. Yakubu Dati appeal to any aggrieved party to go to the tribunal to seek for redress instead of taking the law into their hands to cause any breach of peace in the state.

According to him, “To us, this is abuse of office with impunity by the governor. I want to use this medium to urge my people not to be drawn into any theater of war as a result of the declaration of the loser as winner. It will be pitching brothers against brothers or families against families. Let us not give the enemy the opportunity to snuff lives out of our people as it is well known that the Tarok people are peace-loving.”

Laven further stressed “Plateau is already suffering from an unprecedented security challenges. So anything that would aggravate this present situation is not welcome. Let’s all remain peaceful and await the final arbiter, the judiciary.”

He further said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in 17 out of the 18 wards for chairmanship election in Langtang North LGA while the All Progressives Congress (APC), won one ward adding that for the councillorship election, PDP won in 15 wards, while APC won in three wards.

According to him, at the final collation centre in the LG headquarters, the returning Officers from Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) disappeared and were not on ground to collate and announce the final results, thus leading to what was earlier announced as inconclusive election in Langtang North LGA PLASIEC.

To me, “I consider this development as an electoral collusion. For announcing a process inconclusive and in less that 96 hours same system came with announcement of a winner in the same inconclusive election. This development has create a serious concerns on our moral conscience and the survival of our democracy”. The statement added.
