Plateau LG Polls: PYC Calls for Credible Elections, Assure Citizens of Youth Peaceful Conduct

As Plateau State goes to the Polls to elect Leaders at the third tier of Government, the Plateau Youth Council (PYC) has charged the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) and security agencies to ensure free, fair, credible and peaceful elections are conducted across the 17 Local Government Areas and 325 Wards in the State.

The Apex Youth Group in the State said while a successful exercise is prayed for, it hopes on the assurances of the Youths to conduct themselves in the best manner, peaceful and law abiding, now and in the future.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Cmr. Lot Adas and the Public Relations Officer, Kumwen Walshak, the group said it has engaged prominent Youth groups and key individuals in the State relating to the forthcoming Local Government Elections as it is aware of the agitations, fears and concerns raised by groups and individuals.

It hinted that the Plateau Electoral Umpire has assured the citizens of its commitment and readiness to conduct the elections on Saturday 9th September, 2021 in all the 17 Local Government Councils in the State.

“While council shares in the concerns raised by various Youth groups in the state particularly as it relates to security issues in some parts of the state, It is however relieved of those concerns as security agents have given every assurance of tight security as further confirmed by the Executive Governor in his broadcast. Council therefore, in concord with the assurances of tight security by security agents and the government appeal to all Youths to conduct themselves peacefully as they go out to exercise their fundamental rights of voting the candidates of their choices”

“While Council is aware of worrying concerns by political parties and individuals who feel certain issues be considered with regards the elections, Council equally applauds the actions of parties and individuals who saw the need to approach the best channels with their grievances and dissatisfactions with the true patriotism of holding to mind, the fragile peace that the state needs to make better by not taking the law into their hands. It is true that the people of Plateau are in the most patriotic efforts in contributing their paths in promoting peace and giving rooms for developments”

“Council therefore, calls on the entire Youths on the Plateau to come out with energy and the hope for the state that democracy must remain alive as they conduct themselves and peacefully partake in the elections by voting for the candidates of their choices and being good ambassadors of democratic norms before, during and after the elections, as well, ensure that anything and everything capable of disrupting the electoral process is tamed in the overall interest of the State and its citizens” the statement said.

According to the Youth group, it felt duty bound to equally call on the appropriate quotas who received the grievances of individuals and parties to ensure that, justice is served with every sense of responsibility to give everyone a level playing ground, going forward.
