Former Senate Minority Leader and erstwhile Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Sen. Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, has lauded the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for conducting peaceful and successful congresses and party primaries ahead of the local government elections in Plateau State.
In an interview with Journalists in Jos, Sen. Mwadkwon described the exercise as a testament to the PDP’s stronghold in Plateau, particularly in the Northern Zone, which he noted is the heartbeat of the party in the state and North Central region. Senator Mwadkwon attributed the success of the primaries to the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who allowed for a free, fair, and open process without interference.
He commended the Governor for his visible projects and policies, which have endeared him to the people of Plateau. The former senator expressed optimism that the PDP’s adoption of zoning for party positions would ensure peaceful local government congresses.
He emphasized that the party’s primaries were a family affair, with high participation and no forced consensus.
Sen. Mwadkwon also acknowledged the leadership of Senator Jonah David Jang, a founding father of the PDP, in the Northern Zone. He noted that the zone has set a standard for others to emulate, with a peaceful and democratic process.
He added that successful conduct of the PDP primaries has sent a strong signal of the party’s unity and strength ahead of the local government elections in the state slated for 9th October, 2024.
