Plateau Killings: Speaker Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara Visits Displaced Persons of Plateau Attacks

The Honorable Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara visited the Camp of Internally Displaced Persons in Jos South LGA, Plateau State today Sunday 1st July, 2018 to commensurate with them on the barbaric attacks and killings that left over 250 persons dead.
The Speaker who condemned the killings told the displaced persons that immediately after the heinous killings, the Senate President and himself as leadership of the National Assembly met with the President to discuss how to ensure that there is no repeat of such killings.
He said the President has given his words and promised to intervene in the security situations in Plateau State by providing the necessary security equipments and personnel.
He assured the people that as lawmakers and leaders of the Nation, they would not fail in ensuring that lives and property of the people are protected in line with constitutional provisions.
He urged the people to remain peaceful and remain calm while security apparatus are put in place to secure the people.
Rt. Hon. Dogara said the House of Representatives would sit immediately to contribute towards meeting the immediate needs of the displaced persons while ensuring that their destroyed houses are constructed so they can be rehabilitated to continue their livelihood.
He went further to say the National Assembly would ensure the financial attention given Benue State is replicated to Plateau State.
The Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Barr. Dr. I. D. Gyang thanked the Honorable Speaker for coming to have a first hand assessment of the humanitarian situations on ground arising from the barbaric attacks and killings meted on his people.
Barr. I. D. Gyang to the Speaker that a village in his Constituency, Kantoma was attacked last night and 6 persons were murdered in cold blood.
He called on the National Assembly to work towards ensuring lands illegally taken over by Killer Herdsmen are retrieved and returned to the Natives.
He termed the killings as Holocaust, act of man’s inhumanity to man and ethnic cleansing aimed at eliminating his people and taking over their lands.
He thanked the people of Jos South LGA for accommodating and taking care of the displaced persons.
The District Head of Zawan, HRH Da Christopher Mancha thanked the Speaker for coming to see for himself what the people are facing and urge the National Assembly not to disappoint the people but ensure lives and property of the citizens are protected and their welfare given attention.
He went further to plead to government and security agencies to live up to their constitutional responsibilities as well as proactive to nib the the ugly monster in the bud.
The Traditional Ruler urged government to promptly intervene in the humanitarian crisis confronting the people on account of the unabated killings while calling on government to put measures on ground to ensure native lands illegally occupied by the Killers are recovered and returned to native owners.
Among those who were with the Speaker were Rep. Timothy Golu, Hon. Daniel Dem, Hon. Nyam Dareng and two Chairmen of Security Committees of the House of Representatives.
Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara was in Jos to condole with the government and people of Plateau State.
